Small Men go after smaller targets, mainly because they are trying to not to lose (though that doesn't always work). Boys learn this in fifth grade. Small Men never unlearn it.
The smaller and more vulnerable the target, the better. Any old justification will do, but it seems that the Small Men in the White House always seem to use oil as their justification, probably because they're already pretty slimy and they're looking to regrease.
Vietnam, Kuwait, and now Venezuela all fit that pattern, though the men doing the bullying seem to keep getting smaller.
What we're witnessing in Trump-Washington DC now is basically Lord of the Flies in progress. (In case your sixth grade teacher didn't get the message across to you when you read that book, the title is a common translation of Beelzebub, a biblical demon considered god of pride and warfare, or gluttony and envy, depending upon who you ask. Sounds suspiciously relevant now, doesn't it?)
Today's graphic is also a reminder that everyone needs to go back and learn their history. The original Monroe Doctrine was an attempt to keep Europe from re-exerting Colonialism on the then fledgling America's borders. Yes, implicit in that was probably a wish to reserve America for America, but the primary goal was stated much differently than it is being touted for as justification today.
Today's new Moronroe Doctrine is actually inverted, if it reflects any of the original at all: yes, China and Russia stepped in when the US stepped out of Venezuela and imposed sanctions. But you'll note that this isn't the justification for the current action; it's lost somewhere in the subplot.
Big Men don't need to go after small targets. What they build stands on its own without having to take someone else down. Unfortunately, no Big Men seem to be in sight at the moment, at least here in the US.
Meanwhile, did all this "we're going to run a South American country" rhetoric distract you from what happened on January 6th just a short time ago? Yep, another strategy of Small Men: divert your attention from what they've already done that was a problem to something else.
This doesn't end well, under any scenario, by the way. That's another thing about Small Men: once they start causing a ruckus, the ruckus causes problems for everyone if it isn't immediately terminated.
I see no Big Men on the scene at the moment, so prepare for continued chaos.
